Very close by to my home in Portugal there is a wonderful little village called Obidos. There is no doubt at all that in Portugal Obidos is one of the top attractions anywhere in the whole country.

Just to clarify in case you missed it, Obidos in Portugal and not the one in Brasil, is one of the seven wonders of Portugal.
There are some things you need to know before visiting this beautiful medieval town.

The town is enclosed within an old stone wall
and there a castle within those walls…an incredible and complete castle where they hold festivals nearly every month of the year.

There is no lack of visitors accommodation in Obidos, in fact if you are looking for Obidos hotels then perhaps it would pay you to go a little further afield and try out and English bed and breakfast instead. It would get you away from the hustle bustle in the village, which is probably part of the reason you wanted to come here in the first place.

Something to be aware of as you enjoy the spectacle of this village, is that the walk around the walls presents a little in the way of personal danger. No, the old stone parapets are devoid of safety rails and in a few places it feels rather scary.

Best to stay clear of the walls unless you are not afraid of heights anyway…just enjoy the sights at ground level which include many cafes and restaurants, a deer sanctuary and a lot of shops selling the local strong liqueur. Especially do not approach the walls after having consumed the Ginja!

Go outside the walls to find more treasures. An old roman aqua-duct crosses the whole village and its arches fill the background of one of the car-parks. Drive towards the village of Arelho and you will come to the salt lagoon that used to reach all the way to the castle walls but now is a few kilometers away.

What ever you think in the end, Obidos is a wonderful day out and if you want to go on somewhere else after then the world or rather Portugal is your clamshell.

An increasingly popular destination for tourists is Bulgaria, which joined the European Union in 2007. Our guide tells you why this is such a popular place with tourists. One reason is the Black Sea coast, where you can visit the gorgeous beaches of Varna and experience some great treatments at one of the many spa resorts. There are lots of thermal mineral water springs and you can benefit from a range of electro and light treatments. There are also some great mud treatments and curative sea water available.

Bulgaria is also home to some great skiing, particularly in the south west part of the country. There has recently been massive investment in many of the ski resorts, which is making them increasingly popular with international tourists. Bansko, the largest ski resort, has great snow coverage from December to May and has benefited from lots of investment in new hotels. Overall, Bulgaria has a great reputation for skiing weather and has a fantastic choice of resorts and ski runs.

Bulgaria is also renowned for being a cheap place to visit, making it ideal for tourists on a budget. It has only recently become known to most people although the people of Eastern Europe have been going there for years. As the tourism industry is still quite small, this means that you can get some great deals on price all year round, making it an ideal destination if you’re on a budget. The government also has a comprehensive growth plan to improve the tourism industry.

There is also a lot of great culture in Bulgaria, which is very attractive to a lot of tourists. For example, many of the villages in the countryside have been untouched by Western culture and are still the same as they were 100 years ago. In total there are over 5000 beautiful villages that you can visit and some places, such as Sozopol by the sea are becoming more tourist-friendly. In Sozopol, you can explore 1000s of years’ worth of history and see lots of houses with secret entrances.

Sofia is situated in the west of the country and it is the capital city of Bulgaria. It’s another popular location with tourists as there’s a lot of culture to be discovered. For example, the Boyana Church is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and you can visit some excavated prehistoric settlements. You can also visit the royal palace and the town wall, which is 1000s of years old. Sofia is also close to the weekend resort of Vitosha Mountain, which makes it even more popular with visitors.

Prague’s always been a musical city, and its jazz clubs are no exception. Tiny, underground, smoky places or sleek and modern with a cocktail list – no matter your style it is not difficult to find a great jazz act playing every night of the week. Agharta is one of the oldest jazz clubs in town, and beginning this month they are putting on the 20th anniversary of the Agharta Prague Jazz Festival. The festival is a drawn out one; running from February 23 – May 23, 2011.

Organizers are taking their big birthday seriously and inviting back a number of popular past performers, as well as keeping an interesting and updated edge to the acts. A few highlights include Maceo Parker, the Richard Bono Group and Soft Machine. Most of the concerts are held at the Lucerna Music Bar, and tickets can be bought online at Agharta’s website.

It’s a restaurant. It’s a music bar. It’s your ticket to guaranteed good times at night! Infinity Restaurant and Music Bar, located close to the Flora shopping center, is comprised of a ground level restaurant and a downstairs music bar which can go from calm to crazy in no time, especially if you decide to go there on a Friday or Saturday night. Whether you’re out with friends, on a hot date, or flying solo, you’ll have no problem enjoying yourself at Infinity!

The Infinity music bar is not the biggest place in the world, which means that on a typical Friday or Saturday night, aside from making an extra effort to get the attention of the bartender, it may be difficult to find a seat if you arrive later at night, but not to worry, as you should be standing up and enjoying yourself on the dance floor anyway! The music selection is entirely up to the DJ, and of course, the day of the week on which you happen to be attending Infinity, but during the weekend, one should expect popular dance hits ranging from modern to more classic songs which span several music genres. Needless to say, it’s very likely that you’ll enjoy the music, especially after a few (or more) of your favorite drinks.

With a very acceptable ratio of females to males, Infinity has a lot to offer the single community. You can find a good mixture of fun women and men typically in their 20s and 30s and ranging from locals to out-of-towners and out-of-country-ers. Although a t-shirt and jeans are acceptable forms of attire at Infinity music bar, it certainly wouldn’t hurt to make an effort to look your best, especially if you’re on the prowl for a mate.

All-in-all, the Infinity music bar is a great place for late-night drinks and dancing, and whether your motivations for going out involve listening to fun music, enjoying good cocktails, dancing the night away, or perhaps something of a more carnal nature, it’s likely that you won’t be disappointed at Infinity. See for yourself…

Hooper vow to fans.

In-form striker Gary Hooper, who has notched 13 goals this season, has vowed to make it up to the fans in Wednesday´s Scottish Cup replay against Rangers at Parkhead.

The Hoops’ run of 17 games without defeat was halted on Sunday with a shock 2-0 defeat at the hands of Motherwell and the 23-year-old told STV: “We need to win, get through and get a good result. I’d like to make it up to the fans. It was a bad performance against Motherwell, a bad day, and we have to make up for it and get a win against Rangers.

A consortium coordinated by Better Place and including Renault SA, Continental, Ernst & Young, TÜV Rheinland, KEMA and five leading European institutions announced formal approval from the European Commission for an R&D program to make it easier for European automobile and battery manufacturers to build electric cars with switchable batteries. EASYBAT is the first project for switchable battery electric cars approved by the Commission.

The project calls for the “EASYBAT” Consortium to develop off-the-shelf automotive grade components and interfaces that enable the auto industry to easily integrate battery switching technology into their electric car platforms. The first large scale application of battery switching technology will be shown by Better Place and Renault with the commercial launch of the Renault Fluence Z.E. in Israel and Denmark by year end.

The EASYBAT solution will consist of interfaces for switching a battery in and out of an electric car quickly and safely; the connector interfaces between the car, the battery, the communications network, and the battery cooling system; and design specifications that meet European industry and safety standards. The solution will be integrated and tested on fully electric vehicles to ensure it meets production-grade manufacturing criteria and European safety standards.

Upon conclusion, EASYBAT will have a next generation, commercially available solution for battery switch integration components and design plans that allow for different types of batteries, not just a single standardized battery. Car manufacturers that want to focus on proprietary battery technology can do so and still be able to integrate their technology into a switchable battery electric car platform as envisioned by EASYBAT.

Part of the Seventh EU Framework Program (FP7), EASYBAT is a 2.5-year project, which is expected to run until June 2013. The European Commission will contribute €2.2 million (US.1 million) to the €3.68-million project (US.1 million).

Better Place, Renault and Continental will contribute their expertise in producing production-grade switchable battery electric cars. European standardization organizations, CEN/CENELEC, will facilitate the creation of agreements between the parties for the creation of consensus documents to facilitate standards development for battery switching.

TÜV Rheinland and KEMA will ensure that the EASYBAT solution complies with European safety directives and standards. Leading research institutes in Germany (RWTH Aachen, Fraunhofer Institute für Produktionstechnik und Automatisierung, and Technische Universität München), Denmark (Danish Technological Institute) and Israel (University of Haifa) will team together to provide research support.

If there was ever a game Málaga needed to win then it was Monday night´s Andalucían derby against Almería at La Rosaleda, and Manuel Pellegrini´s men did not disappoint. A superb second-half performance in a pulsating game saw Los Blanquiazules record a 3-1 victory to move them off the bottom of the table and leapfrog Almería with 13 fixtures remaining.

Goals from Enzo Maresca, Salomon Rondón and youngster Juanmi gave Málaga a thoroughly deserved win after Algerian midfielder Sofiane Feghouli, on loan from Valencia, had given the visitors an early lead. A 27,000 crowd saw Almer
