Tottenham have received a welcome boost with the news that Jermain Defoe’s ankle injury is not as bad as first feared. Having missed more than two months of the season with ankle ligament damage (sustained on international duty), the diagnosis is “soft tissue irritation”. Defoe is expected to return to training when the Spurs squad returns from their warm-weather training camp in Dubai. Spurs are currently without Tom Huddlestone, Younes Kaboul, Ledley King, Jonathan Woodgate, Gareth Bale and Rafael Van der Vaart.
With Spurs enjoying a season to remember, Defoe’s season has b A Different League

The Hertz Corporation has signed a Letter of Intent to add Renault’s range of electric vehicles (EV) to the fleets of Hertz and car sharing club Connect by Hertz across Europe. Hertz will be one of the first rental operators to offer Renault’ Twizy, and will also rent the ZOE, Fluence Z.E. and Kangoo Z.E. models.
Hertz plans to add 500 units of the Renault range to its fleet over the next two years across Europe. The partnership will form part of the European development of Hertz’s Global Electric Vehicle Program, launched in December 2010. The Hertz program is designed to bring a variety of electric vehicles to the general public.
As the world’s largest general-use airport car-rental brand, Hertz is uniquely positioned to introduce multiple groups of consumers—urban drivers, university students, travellers and corporations—to all-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. As part of this strategy, Hertz is forming partnerships with manufacturers, charging station providers, municipalities, NGOs, corporations and other stakeholders.
During the next several months, Hertz Global EV will leverage the company’s rental and car sharing locations as bases for vehicles and charging stations, and tap into its technology—including fleet management tools and the consumer-facing NeverLost GPS system—to help form an EV grid.
Following its unveiling of the 908 in February, Peugeot Sport is displaying the diesel-hybrid version of the new car at the Geneva Motor Show. The newcomer has already been set ambitious targets for the 2011 racing season.

Peugeot Sport first unveiled the team’s demonstration hybrid car at Silverstone, in 2008. (Earlier post.) Peugeot Sport has continued to work on this technology in close collaboration with the Group’s engineers.
The system employed by the 908 HYbrid4 recovers and stores the kinetic energy generated under braking before feeding it back into the driveline during acceleration. Using this recovered energy in this way significantly improves the efficiency of the powertrain.
The system provides a power boost of 60kW (80hp) during the seconds that follow its redelivery. Recovered energy (500kJ between two braking phases) is stored in lithium-ion batteries before being automatically fed to the rear wheels under acceleration (no push to pass function). It will be possible to run in electric mode only along the pit-lane, and it is this mode that will be used for the car’s homologation.
Peugeot Sport intends to run the car at the official pre-Le Mans 24 Hours test day at the French circuit on 24 April.

Saab unveiled the PhoeniX concept car at the Geneva Motor Show, showcasing design features and technologies which will shape its next generation of cars. Based on an new architecture intended for the next Saab 9-3 model, the PhoeniX introduces ‘aeromotional’ design: a visual evocation of the aerodynamic design principles and passion for innovation that inspired the creators of Saab’s first car, the iconic Ursaab.
The PhoeniX’ propulsion system combines an efficient, 1.6-liter turbo engine with electric rear wheel drive technology. The compact, all-aluminum gasoline engine delivers 200 hp (147 kW) and includes variable valve timing and lift control, as well as start/stop functionality, minimal parasitic losses and a fuel cut-off function. A stainless steel tank is fitted, which is lighter and less expensive than a conventional plastic design.
The eXWD system comprises a rear drive unit housing a 25 kW (34 hp) electric motor/generator powered by a small battery pack. Regenerative braking is used to sustain the battery’s charge. Now under development for the next generation of Saab cars, this hybrid propulsion system enables the benefits of all-wheel-drive while also reducing fuel consumption.
Using a six-speed manual transmission, projected combined cycle fuel economy and CO2 emissions are 5.0 L/100 km (47 mph) and 119 g/km. The driver can select one of three eXWD operating modes:
The default Eco mode delivers optimal fuel and CO2 efficiency with power assistance to reduce load on the gasoline engine at low speeds;
Sport mode includes maximum power assistance with torque vectoring across the rear axle for greater chassis control; and
Traction mode enables optimal grip at take-off and in slippery conditions.
The PhoeniX embraces teardrop, ‘liquid metal’ forms and a jet canopy-inspired glasshouse that gives fresh expression to Saab’s wraparound and translucent ice-block design themes. The shape enables an low drag co-efficient of 0.25 and also explores the potential for airflow management through the use of distinctive, side-mounted ‘winglets’.
There are certainly not a lot of other architectural structures on this planet that became equally renowned and also recognisable like the Sydney Opera House. It’s the impressive setting on the harbour and unforgettable style which makes it Sydney’s number 1 attraction.
It was designed by Danish architect Jorn Utzon and it took 14 years to complete. It was open to people in 1973 and the total cost ended up being above fourteen times higher in comparison with the first spending budget. The Opera House includes five performance venues which together hold about twenty-five hundred performances every year. This is the reason you may to sydney as your holiday.
Your best option to examine the building from the inside is to attend one of several activities or join the daily excursion organized by the administration of the Opera House. Shows happen almost all evenings of the week and the selection of options is enormous. You can listen to a traditional music or watch contemporary dance. Passes can be obtained on the net or at the ticket office opened daily.
If you don’t like a performance you can join everyday backstage trip. Professional guide will talk about the history of the building and will present some humorous tales. The Opera House is also certainly the most photographed architectural structures in the entire planet and every single individual traveling to Sydney has got to take a shot of this remarkable building. You will discover a number of extremely good vantage point throughout the town.
The House has a distinct style of successive concrete shells emerging from the centre and pointing towards the top. Concrete piers of about 25 meters are sunk below the building to form the House’s foundation. The roof was covered with 1,056,000 glossy white and cream colored tiles and if you look at the House from a distance then you will see it as uniform white. The existing Sydney town Hall had a limited capacity for the people and hence Goossens who was the director of music at that time appealed for a larger music house.
The hall should be large enough to accommodate 3000 people and another small hall at the side with a capacity of 1200 seats. In 1957 the winner was announced as Jorn Utzon. The architect came and stayed in Sydney from 1957 in order to look over the project. At that time there was a fort called Macquarie at that site. The fort was destroyed in order to accommodate the House. The whole project consisted of three phases where building the upper podium was the first phase of the project. The second phase consisted of the construction of the outer shells while the third phase consisted of the interior design. The first phase would cost around 5.5 million dollars, the second phase would cost 12.5 million dollars and the last phase would cost 82 million dollars. The project was finished in 1973 and the original budget had overshot itself by 10 years and 14 times the original budget set in terms of money.
The Opera House was formally opened by the Queen of Australia and Queen Elizabeth II on 20th October 1973. Even today Sydney has the distinction of the best fireworks show in the world every New Year’s eve. The architect died in November, 2008 but before that he had proposed a major reconstruction of the House in 2007. The Opera House underwent repairs in November 2009. Today the Sydney Opera House holds about 1,500 musical performances every year. Maybe you can watch this performance if you to Sydney, Australia.
