The term ‘must-win game’ is used far too often these days, but it would take a very brave Blackburn Rovers fan to suggest that this Saturday’s crunch clash against local-rivals Bolton Wanderers was not an extremely important affair. Although Rovers would still have a further three games to save their Premier League status after this weekend, the visit of Owen Coyle’s men provides the Blues with an ideal opportunity to finally end a run of ten league games without a win.

Bolton have been impressive this season under one of Britain’s brightest young managers, and therefore this w

No, this isn’t some sort of ritualistic hunting – but a fun way to say good-bye to winter and hello to spring. Traditionally in the Czech lands, this custom with pagan roots takes place on the night from April 30-May 1.

Historically, people believed witched gathered together on this day in caves and other underground caverns to release treasure. To protect against this evil, people built bonfires which gradually developed into “witch burnings” (actually people burned broomsticks.) The ashes from these fires were said to have magical powers and were used to fertilize crops. Cattle were also walked through the ashes to assist with fertility.

Today, Witch’s Night is more of an excuse to have a fire and hang out with friends. They are more popular in smaller towns and villages where people will gather round the fire, sing songs and burn an effigy of a witch. Now the custom is more symbolic of the end of winter, purification and new beginnings.

In Prague, Kampa Island often does a witch burning, but for a fun afternoon, especially with kids, head up to Ladronka. Fun for adults and kids alike begins at 3pm on April 30. Music, sports, artistic and other recreational activities will be on offer, including puppet making workshops, dance pieces, a bike exhibition, and of course a huge bonfire with burning witches. For more information (Czech only) see here.

Whilst Manchester United continue to press forward domestically and in Europe, there is one issue that will no doubt have concerned Sir Alex Ferguson in recent weeks – the decline in Luis Nani’s form.

In a disruptive Autumn for the Red Devils that at one stage threatened to derail their title challenge before it had begun, Nani’s emergence as an attacking focal point for the team can be directly credited as kick-starting it.

As the team lost Antonio Valencia to a horrific leg-break, and Wayne Rooney’s form to distracting actions, Nani’s development into a more con

Blackburn manager Steve Kean believes his side can avoid relegation from the Premier League, despite having the second worst form in the league, and sitting only one point above the danger-zone.

Rovers have not won any of their last 11 games in all competitions, and remain in a relegation dogfight along with West Ham, Wolves, Wigan and Blackpool. Monday night saw them defeated 1-0 by Manchester City, and next Saturday Blackburn face Bolton, who beat Arsenal on Sunday.

It might be the second largest city in the country, but Birmingham in England seems at first a bit of an unlikely destination to go and visit. It was hard hit by the decline in manufacturing, but it’s still a great place to visit and there’s a lot to see and do. For example, the canal network in Birmingham is lined with lots of fantastic shops, restaurants and other attractions. It also has more canals than Venice, making it a must-see for locals and tourists alike.

If it’s cultural attractions you are after, then Birmingham won’t disappoint. One of the best places is the Symphony Hall. This is one of the best classical music venues in the country and you can regularly catch some great free jazz concerts in the bars or go and see the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra in concert. The nearby Birmingham Museum is home to a celebrated collection of pre-Raphaelite art and, if the theatre’s more your thing, then you should definitely pay a visit to the Hippodrome.

Next on the list is the Jewelry Quarter. This is one of Birmingham’s most famous attractions and is an historic part of the city as well as still being one of its current economic hubs. You can learn a lot more about the heritage of the city and rediscover some long-lost landmarks by following the cultural trail that works its way around the Jewelry Quarter. You will also find street after street filled with jewelry shops – as the name suggests – making it a great place to do some shopping.

One of the things that Birmingham and its surrounding areas are most famous for are the fantastic curries and other cuisines on offer. Sometimes referred to as the ‘balti triangle’, it really is a brilliant place to go out and try lots of different types of food. In this multicultural city, you’ll find lots of Bangladeshi, Pakistani and Indian curry houses and other restaurants, as well as food from many other nations. This includes the Chinese Quarter, which is named after the large Chinese population.

Birmingham also makes a really good base if you want to go and visit the surrounding rural areas, away from the bustle of the large city. For example, Packwood House and Baddesley Clinton are properties owned by the National Trust and are definitely well worth a visit. You can also visit the home of Shakespeare – Stratford upon Avon – by taking a forty-five minute train ride. This is definitely recommended for anyone looking to go exploring while they’re visiting the city of Birmingham.
