Art Galleries and Museums
Moravian Gallery, the biggest gallery in Brno, covering various art genres and offering several exhibitions at one time, is located in three buildings – Pražák Palace at Husova Street 18, Museum of Applied Arts at Husova 14 and the Governor’s Palace at Moravské Square 1a. The permanent exhibition of Modern and Contemporary Art can be seen in Pražák Palace for 80 CZK (2.9€).
The Brno House of Art is one of the most prominent galleries in the Czech Republic. The exhibitions are changed several times a year, usually three exhibitions are shown at one time. The gallery is focused mostly on current Czech visual artists, the entrance fee is 40 CZK (1.4€).
The Moravian Museum collected more than 6 million objects from various scientific fields and is divided into several institutes. In the Detrichstein Palace at Zelný trh Ssquare 8, you can see exhibitions on the history of Moravia, from ancient times to the middle ages. The Bishop’s Courtyard at Muzejní Street 1 is focused on Moravian fauna, and historic currencies that have been used in Moravia. Anthropos Pavilion located in Park Pisárky (trolley bus line 29 from Česká Street) has a nice exhibition of prehistoric life in Moravia, which is crowned by a life size model of a mammoth. The Institute of Ethnography can be found at Kobližná Street 1. The entrance fees are not higher than 60 CZK (2.1€).The Museum of Romany Culture at Bratislavská 67, is the only institution of its kind in Europe, documenting the past and present life of Gypsies in Europe. The Jewish Museum can be found at Kapitána Jaroše Street 3. The Technical Museum at Purkyňova 105 (eponymous stop of tramline 13) offers an interesting collection of steam engines, historical cars, and gramophones, as well as an exhibiton of shops from the beginning of the 20th century. The entrance fee is 60 CZK (2.2€).
