Most restaurants offer cheap lunches during workdays. The pre-set “menus” usually consist of soup and a main dish and cost from 59 to 79 crowns. The choice is limited to one soup and usually two meals.

Students can enter most of the museums and sights for about a half of the standard fee. An ISIC card is usually necessary for this privilege.

Public transport tickets valid for 1, 3 or 7 days (50, 100, 175 CZK; 1.8, 3.6, 6.3€ respectively) are more convenient that buying and validating separate tickets for shorter periods.

The Brno House of Art has free entrance on Wednesdays.

Viewing the town centre from on high for free is always possible from the eastern side of the Špilberk fortress, and the southern part of the city can be viewed from Denisovy sady park.

Sleeping in parks may be fined in the centre of the town, but the risk of getting into troubles with police is very low at the shores of reservoir in Bystrc.

On weekends, the one- day ticket for 50 CZK is valid for 2 people older than 15 years and three kids under 15.

Vegetables and fruits, usually home-grown, can be bought at the market in Zelný trh near Old town hall for good prices. Be prepared to use sign language, the fruit and vegetable sellers usually have very poor knowledge of foreign languages.

The well- known Absolut Bar at Jánská Street has its happy hour between 4 PM and 6 PM every workday, which means that cocktails are offered for 50% off.

Bakery Paneria at Česká Street 32, has its happy hour after 6.30PM, selling pastry for half the regular price.

”Indie soda” Kofola is a cheaper alternative to Coca-cola and is very popular in Moravian pubs, mostly among students. The drink is based on liquorice and isn’t as sweet as colas.
