Festivals and events held each year
During May and June, a huge fireworks competition named Ignis Brunensis is held in the town. Most of the fireworks are launched above the reservoir in Bystrc, attracting around 200,000 spectators. Due to the huge area filled with kiosks and all unused buses and trams engaged to the lines to Bystrc, the show can be seen without loosing much comfort, even with small children. Two or three fireworks shows are launched over the historical centre too, leading to a spectacular effect. Ignis Brunensis are conducted with concerts and extraordinary events such as putting trams made in the 19th century back into traffic.
The most popular sporting event held in Brno is the Grand Prix of the Czech Republic motorcycle races that attract more than 100,000 spectators each year in the second half of August. The track Automotodrom Brno is located several kilometers northwest of the town, and the simplest connection is managed with buses departing from Mendlovo Square during the morning of the races. The Grand Prix of the Czech Republic is part of the motorcycle world championship, so with the prices of tickets starting at 600 CZK (21.5€), it is one of the cheapest ways to see drivers like Valentino Rossi competing.
At an exhibition ground in Brno-Pisárky, several interesting exhibitions are held each year. Some of the most popular are the International Dog Show (February), International Fashion Fair (February and August), International Wine Fair (March) and International Fair of Consumer Electronics and Digital Entertainment (October).
Music stars are brought to Brno by the exposition of typography and graphic design Biennale Brno can be seen in the Moravian gallery between May and September.
