Reservoir and Veveří castle
A huge artificial lake is located northwest from the town, about one kilometer beyond the ZOO, also near the „Přístaviště“ stop of tramlines 1, 3 and 11. The reservoir is surrounded with open-air restaurants and sports facilities such as a minigolf playground or volleyball grounds. Excursion ships depart every hour or even more often from a dock located at the end of the road leading from the tram station. The tickets can be bought in a kiosk located at the dock for 8 CZK per one stop, the return ticket to Veveří castle costs 80 CZK (100 CZK with admittance to the castle; 2.7 and 3.6€ respectively). The sailing season starts in April and ends in October. Swimming in the reservoir is usually not recommended from July on, due to the low quality of water. There is a nudist beach located on the northern bank, approximately three kilometers west of the tram station.
Towering over the reservoir, Veveří castle is quite a romantic place, visited even by Winston Churchill during his honeymoon. It can be accessed by excursion ships, although it is still necessary to climb the hill by foot. The entrance fee is 50 CZK (1.8€)
